Not a big wheelbarrow city, from what I've seen in two days. I've seen construction work and trucks with tools, but few wheelbarrows.

I saw one near some curb work. I saw these three (hard to see where they are, and the tour bus we were on was moving quickly).

Barrow, no legs

Elsewhere on this Robin Hood series there was a barrow with two short legs. They carried armor in it.

This is a different one, or perhaps the same one (prop) used in one show, and legs added to one end of it later.

My dad's birthday

My dad has been gone for over half my life, but he gave me rides in wheelbarrows when I was little, and let us play with his wheelbarrow as much as we wanted to. Somewhere there is a photo of me and my sister sitting under an apple tree, digging in the dirt, with a cousin or two. There's a wheelbarrow.

Somewhere there is a photo of my dad and my Uncle Junior (who is still living) and I think there might be a wheelbarrow in that, too.

This isn't a wheelbarrow, but it's my dad, before I was born. He was strong and always owned a big wheelbarrow. Probably the same one all the years I knew him.


My dad was born July 17, 1926. He died in his fifties. I have outlived him two ways. His name was Kirby Lynn Adams.

Spotted at a distance

In Alameda, New Mexico, spotted this:


Through the wonder of a zoom lens, I didn't need to trespass to get a better look.

Fire wood. In May, and it wasn't near the house nor a wood pile, it seemed. Maybe they were cleaning up the field, and tehre were pieces of wood scattered or lost in winter. Maybe they moved it away from the house in case it lured spiders. Maybe they have a hot tub, or a wood-fired kiln or outdoors oven. Some houses have an horno. We had one when I was little, but my mom didn't know how to use it. Some families put a wood stove out in summer. Nada used to move hers in or out seasonally, in the 1970's when she lived north of El Duende. Maybe it was for a bonfire or campfire. Holly has had some outdoors fires this summer at her house.

Routine, matches the bikes, spotted in the back of a four-car garage at someone else's house. Minnesota.

The wheelbarrow race in England

I went to see where that race might have been, and why. I found another wheelbarrow race in England, celebrating fifty years (so it wasn't the 1932 race). There are photos! One person pushes, one person rides, and there are costumes involved. And water. Big audience, even though it was raining. Braughing Wheelbarrow Race celebrates 50 Years.

Here's one in Pewsey that's for adults only, at night… Teams of three or more, costumes. September 18, 2014, if anyone wants to go and check it out. There are photos of former years: Peswsey Carnival, with wheelbarrow search. This is put on by The Pewsey And District Feast And Carnival (PADFAC), established in 1898. They put on the oldest carnival in Wiltshire. Their newsletter said, in February, that the 2014 race might not be held. In calling for volunteers, part of what was written was "There are some 800-900 people who take part in the Wheelbarrow race each year and between us we need to find two volunteers to take up these positions." (There are updates there.)

Without an extensive search, I see that there are also wheelbarrow races in Great Glen and in Watchet, in England. Watchet has a logo, too (at least for facebook purposes), at their page there: Watchet Annual Wheelbarrow Race

Devils and kings

Seems three kings are in a wheelbarrow pushed by a devil, with another devil leading. Maybe.

Where girls ride horses

Two moms in the same month sent photos of wheelbarrows at the stables where their girls ride horses.
